Policies and Procedures

Academic Policies:

Admissions and Registration: Student admissions are done through E-Counseling process of West Bengal Joint Entrance Board. Students need to secure ranks in WBJEE/ JEE Mains and PCM in the 10+2 board examination. Direct admissions are also done once these are allowed through official notification by Higher Education department of the Govt. Of West Bengal.

After admission students are enrolled in the portal of affiliating University MAKAUT West Bengal through DHITM university affairs section. This enrollment process is done strictly as par the academic calendar deadline, guidelines and directives of MAKAUT. In each semester the students need to register their courses in their university portal under the supervision of mentor faculty and the respective head of the department.

Assessment and Evaluation:

Students learning assessment is done through MAKAUT suggested Continuous assessment (CAs) and End semester Examinations for both the Theory and Practical Courses. Four Continuous Assessment (CA) exams: CA1 (Report Writing), CA2 (Presentation & Assignment), CA3 (Pen-and-Paper), and CA4 (Online MCQs). Students must pass the best two scores from CA3 and CA4, while also completing CA1 and CA2 to fulfill the requirements. The university’s blended approach considers both internal assessments like these CAs and end-semester exams to evaluate student performance.

MAKAUT Continuous Assessment (CA) Exams

• CA1: Report Writing

• CA2: Presentation and Assignment

• CA3: Pen-and-Paper Mode

• CA4: Online MCQs

Weightage: The final evaluation uses a combination of internal assessments (like the CA exams) and end-semester exam results, with more details often found in official notices from the university or through the student’s college.

MAR & MOOCs:

MAKAUT’s MOOCs for Mandatory Additional Requirements (MAR) guide students in earning points through online courses from platforms like Coursera and NPTEL to enhance skills and gain recognition. For a B.Tech Honours degree, students must complete 20 MOOCs credits, with points awarded based on course duration, while the MAR scheme encourages broad participation in digital education. Students should select courses from approved, updated lists, seek faculty approval, register on the platform, and submit their certificates to their institutions for point registration on the MAKAUT portal.

Understanding MOOCs at MAKAUT

• Purpose:

MOOCs allow students to acquire skills in various subjects through online platforms, supplementing their academic curriculum.

• For Honours Degree:

To obtain a B.Tech Honours degree, students must complete 20 credits through MOOCs, separate from their regular degree credits.

• Credit System:

Points for MOOCs are awarded based on the duration of the course:

◦ For every 8 hours of course: 1 credit point.

◦ Courses by duration: Shorter courses can be combined to meet the 8-hour threshold.

• Avoidance of Curricular Courses:

When choosing MOOCs, students should generally avoid courses that are already offered in the regular offline/classroom mode.

MAR Guidelines for MOOCs

• Purpose of MAR:

The Mandatory Additional Requirements (MAR) scheme encourages students to engage in activities that go beyond the curriculum, with MOOCs being a significant part of this.

• Earning MAR Points:

Each approved MOOCs course earns points, with the specific points depending on the course content and the institution’s discretion.

• Specific Credit Requirements:

Students must meet the minimum MAR point requirements set by the university for each academic year.
